MANEKINEKOD
Manekinekod is the musical project of Eleni Adamopoulou that exists since August 2007. Manekineko means beckoning cat in Japanese and is represented by a cat figure. It is believed to bring good luck to households and beckons guests to come in by displaying an upright paw. There certainly is something very enticing about Eleni's music also.
Eleni Adamopoulou started studying classical music at the age of 12 and continued as a piano and flute player. She has participated in classical choirs as a singer, performed with a woodwind band for two years, explored the jazz music with different bands, played the keyboard in many alternative indie bands and finished her studies as a music teacher.
Eleni describes her home town Athens as "noisy and melancholic", which might explain why her sound is often dark, using noise from the city and transforming it into rhythms and melodies. Always fond of different rhythms and styles, she gathers all the sounds from different movements in order to create a collage and experiments with sounds that we rarely pay attention to. Sounds from machines and objects create a factory of rhythms, while noise samples are transformed into melodies. Her narration explores a world of non-existence.
